We were asked to look at the phased re-development of an existing garden centre to expand the retail footprint and food hall, whilst improving visual appeal and roadside presence.
Our proposals look to sensitively develop the existing site facilities to provide enhanced visual appeal and a greater retail offer. Ongoing landscaping works, in addition to the rationalisation and refining of existing natural features and removal of low quality signage, aims to create a more harmonious relationship with the rolling landscape beyond as well as an attractive streetscape through newly established green boundaries and subtle, incorporated signage within the facade.
In addition to improving the visual contribution of the site through referencing of local building forms and materials, the proposal looks to develop the site’s current contribution to the local economy through increased retail space, protecting and enhancing employment on the site.
The proposals are simple in form and materiality. They reference the local context and create a much improved visitor experience. The quality of the visual material allowed meaningful engagement with the planners and ultimately led to a positive planning outcome.
