Alms Housing.

We were asked to reinterpret the typical village and provide well-proportioned dwellings for the rural community. Proposals needed to be community focused and to respect the history of the environment, whilst creating attractive homes to suit modern living.

Community spirit was a main consideration for the scheme. Open space should provide an opportunity for communities to gather, embrace and shape. Our proposals provide small defensible space for individual dwellings and large open areas for owners/occupiers to shape. Our concept is one shaped around honey making, orchards, cider presses and the creation and growth of a community spirit.

The masterplan was conceived around the principle of the street and the green. The green creates the conceptual heart of the proposals; it is envisaged as a dynamic space in which the community embrace as their own. The space links through to the public right of way, allowing walkers to pass through and is to include an orchard, bee hives, wildflowers and a SUDS pond.
